Something about bridges holds an attraction for the avid traveler. Bridges connect, join or hold parts together. Some bridges are bright, others are dark. Colorful bridges beckon while those that are somber might harbor a secret. Only the bold will venture to uncover it.
Not so long ago my travels took me to a place where I came upon a covered bridge. As I gazed at it, I felt it called me to cross its relatively short expanse. But I was hesitant because I couldn’t see the other side. Large trees draped over it, preventing me from viewing what might be ahead. Even as I approached the entrance, I still had no idea where it might lead. What was on the other side? Should I take a risk and discover its secret? I sensed a mystery.
Looking back at that incident and my feelings towards the covered bridge, I came to realize that the bridge represented my life. How will I cross it? What obstacles will I find? Dare I venture into the unknown? Only by crossing will I discover what lies in wait.
Life is a series of bridges. Some bridges challenge us. Sooner or later we must choose which bridge to cross to get to a particular destination. More often than not, sometimes there is only one bridge available. Bridges are meant to convey us to a new place. We cannot remain on any one bridge. We cannot remain stagnant. A bridge may be there to transport us to experience something different. It’s up to us to decide which bridge we cross or whether to cross it. In the end, all bridges usually lead us to where we want to go. But we must choose our bridges wisely. ~~LMM
